professeur de littérature américaine et de « creative writing » à Allegheny College (Pennsylvanie, USA).
Poète, auteur d’un récit de voyage qui fait la part belle à la gastronomie, M. Bakken y explorera son rapport à la Grèce et à ses écrivains.
 

Writing under the Influence of Patrick Leigh Fermor



In the Preface to Mani, Patrick Leigh Fermor admits that his “private invasions of Greece” led him to produce what amounts to “the opposite of a guide book.” American poet and travel writer Christopher Bakken will discuss what makes Leigh Fermor’s travel writing so unusual and distinctive, from the perspective of someone who writes under Leigh Fermor’s long shadow and continues to ponder what Greece means. Bakken will also offer a personal account of literary influence by reading a brief passage from Honey, Olives, Octopus: Adventures at the Greek Table—a culinary memoir he wrote, in part, as an homage to Patrick Leigh Fermor.
